Clearance Standing alone in the rubble Where once proud houses all stood They were bought and paid for By hard work sweat and our blood This was the dream of the council Without the peoples consent They’re using facts and figures We think they’re truly bent Our houses all have been blighted A vision in somebody’s mind Where are we all going to go too? Somewhere we cannot find We know just what you are up to Big business you’re putting first Blinded by your ambition For the glory we know you thirst They want an affluent society Meaning we are too poor to stay Wanting houses for first time buyers We will be bulldozed away Will there be roads and car parks Tower blocks rising so high All of the new shiny houses Too expensive for us to buy When people get their new mortgage They will scrimp and scrape to pay A hand to mouth existence Less shopping that’s what they’ll say Families cannot afford them Unless you’ve just won the pools Where are these affordable houses We think that they are just fools They should read all the facts and figures Study them all through the night Then with their dream or nightmare They shouldn’t give all us a fright. |
